The crowd at Percival Molson Stadium on Saturday night gave a warm welcome to four former members of the Alouettes who will soon be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame: builders Larry Smith and Jacques Dussault and John Bowman and Josh Bourke.
Of course, at 72, Mr. Smith upped the show during the halftime ceremony of the game between the Alouettes and the British Columbia Lions by doing a few push-ups.
“Thank you for your support and “Go Als go!” exclaimed the man who had an interesting playing career before becoming commissioner of the Canadian Football League and then president of the Alouettes.

For his part, Mr. Dussault, known as “The Coach,” insisted that he would proudly represent Quebec at the official inauguration at the Pantheon, scheduled for Friday, September 15, in Hamilton.

“The Hall of Fame is the ultimate recognition of an exceptional career and we are proud that these former Alouettes have been inducted at the same time,” said Mark Weightman, the team’s president and CEO. Each of them played a leading role within the Montreal organization.”
Owner Pierre Karl Péladeau and general manager Danny Maciocia were also present at the ceremony.
- Former Concordes and Alouettes player Lloyd Fairbanks, who was unable to attend Saturday, is another 2023 signing linked to Montreal. He testified via video.
