College football rankings: Notre Dame, Alabama, Colorado rise as Ohio State, TCU fall in top 25 polls – CBS Sports

College football’s first rankings for the 2023 regular season will not be released on Sunday as usual, although Week 1 has already provided enough excitement to know that there will be some changes to the AP Top 25 poll. The rankings will be moved to Tuesday as we still have two games left until Monday before Week 1 officially ends. And while that may be the case, there’s no reason to wait for our weekly check-in on how Saturday’s results will impact the reshuffled college football rankings.

With Week 0 results also taken into account when the college football rankings are updated, two Top 25 teams already boast 2-0 records, with No. 6 USC and No. 13 Notre Dame adding wins on Saturday .

Although the week’s schedule only features one matchup between ranked teams — that game is Sunday night’s battle between No. 5 LSU and No. 8 Florida State — there are more than a handful of teams that we think voters will make adjustments after will make Week 1 results. The most obvious would be adjustments for the ranked teams that lost, but there will also be some smaller changes for teams that emphatically answered preseason questions with their performances on the field.

There is also at least one case where a top team may experience a slight drop in the rankings even after a win because their margin and manner of victory did not meet many’s pre-game expectations.

Voters will have to think about how to handle previously unranked Colorado after Deion Sanders led the Buffaloes to Fort Worth, Texas, and defeated No. 17 TCU in a 45-42 thriller. Also considered is that No. 3 Ohio State is off to a slow offensive start with a 23-3 win at Indiana. No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Michigan were both winners on Saturday, as were most of the Top 25, but putting some of those preseason expectations to the test will inevitably lead to some shakeups within the order for many voters .

So join us again on Monday night for tomorrow’s official Top 25 as we clarify the new AP Top 25 predictions after Week 1. For now, here are a few teams that changed their ranking predictions on Saturday.

CBS Sports will release a full AP Top 25 forecast on Monday evening following the conclusion of the first week of play.
