According to the authorities of the Asian giant, the European foreign minister will extend his agenda until September 5, at the invitation of his counterpart Wang Yi, with whom he will co-chair the eleventh edition of the intergovernmental committee.
The program also includes a meeting with the head of China’s Commerce Department, Wang Wentao, and participation in numerous cultural engagements.
According to the Italian Foreign Ministry, the diplomatic chief will discuss “the resumption of bilateral dialogue in areas of common interest within the framework of the Global Strategic Partnership founded in 2004.”
In fact, the visit has greater impact due to recent reports of Italy’s possible exit from the IFR, which it joined in 2019.
Tajani himself stated that participation in this initiative “did not bring the results we expected”.
For its part, the Asian giant’s Foreign Ministry stressed before the visit that relations with Italy represent an important part of relations between China and the European Union.
“In recent years, the two countries have maintained close high-level interactions, continuously deepened practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, and bilateral relations have shown positive development momentum,” a spokesman said.
In this regard, Cui Hongjian, director of the Department of European Studies at the China Institute of International Studies, noted that hostile voices were trying to disrupt mutual economic and trade cooperation.
Speaking to Chinese newspaper Global Times, the professor stressed that “the future of bilateral economic relations will depend to some extent on the series of interactions between the two sides from this visit onwards.”
