Racionai’s MCs sing “Nego Drama” in the rain at The Town
One of the most anticipated shows this Saturday (2), the first night of The Town attracted attention from the start, not only for its originality but also for the union of the largest group of rappers in the country with the first orchestra in the world show up in a favela.
There was great anticipation to see how the Racionais MCs would adapt to the timbres of violins, cellos and double basses as well as other instruments of the Heliópolis Symphony Orchestra.
But anyone who went to the show thirsty for that reason may have been disappointed.
The sound of DJ KL Jay’s electronic beats really stood out compared to those of the orchestra.
The sound of the instrumentalists and choir, led by Maestro Edilson Ventureli, was dwarfed.

At times the piano could be clearly heard. But it was already part of the rehearsed excerpts.
To make matters worse, just before the middle of the show, heavy rain fell on the Autódromo, causing most of the orchestra’s musicians to leave the stage to avoid damaging their instruments.
The presentation began with “Capítulo 4 Versículo 3” from the group’s most emblematic album, “Sovivendo no Inferno”.
The screen showed images of buildings in São Paulo. And dancers dressed as clowns on stage.
As soon as he arrived, Mano Brown made a joke about The One’s floor being wet due to recent rain and would soon return with a vengeance. “It’s soap.”
“Southern area of São Paulo. [Autódromo] Interlagos. “To be honest, I only came here once, when I was ten years old,” said Brown, clearly referencing the elitism of the place where the festival is held.

The event region has a close relationship with the artists the Racionais flourished in Capão Redondo and the orchestra in Heliópolis. Fringe district, in contrast to the upscale Interlagos district, also in the south zone.
“What the [Carlos] Would Marighela think of me now?,” Brown asked during “A Thousand Faces of a Loyal Man (Marighella).” Here’s another line regarding the themes of class and race that hang over The Town, a festival that costs R$800 per day to enter.
It was a show that, despite its regrets, moved the rappers’ fans with hits such as “Jesus Chorou”, “Vida Loka Parte 2” and “Negro Drama”.
