Some citizens were informed via SMS, others did not yet know that they had to boil their water before consuming it.

A woman admitted in an interview with TVANouvelles that one of her friends who lives on the same street continued to drink water throughout the weekend.

“I keep asking if it came back, I don’t know. To a certain extent it’s annoying,” says a young woman.

A third woman, who learned the news via text message, said she feared such bacteria could end up in the city’s water.

The boil water advisory affects the Vieux-Longueuil sector and the towns of Saint-Hubert, Boucherville and Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville.

This request was made on the afternoon of September 1st because laboratory analyzes revealed the presence of E. coli bacteria in the aqueduct.

We then ask citizens to boil their water for at least a minute before consuming it or, for example, when brushing their teeth.

“In order to lift the boil water advisory, the city of Longueuil must meet several requirements […] In particular, two series of twenty samples taken on two consecutive days must be compliant and free of impurities,” affirms the municipality in a communication sent to TVANouvelles.

Citizens can find out this afternoon whether further traces of the bacteria were found in the new samples from the aqueduct.

Until then, the notice will remain in effect.
