Democratic Republic of Congo: Anger in Goma, four days after bloody crackdown on demonstration

As soon as the government delegation arrived at the scene of the tragedy at Nyabushongo in Katoyi County, they were greeted by an angry crowd. Linda Kaboyi, 26, lives next to the burned-down mystical religious church with tears in her eyes; she is impatient.

“I’m waiting,” she said, “for our authorities to shed light on what happened in our home.” During the shooting, a woman fled to a nearby home. Inside, she found a pregnant woman in labor, stricken with panic. As she tried to help her leave the house to a nearby medical facility, the pregnant woman was shot and died. Another man who sought refuge in the same house was shot. The whole neighborhood is upset, our families are victims! »

The spokesman for the North Kivu Provincial Government, Lieutenant Colonel Guillaume Njike Kaiko, reassured: “Families who have noticed the disappearance of one of their relatives after the said incidents are asked to go to the various hospitals where injured or deceased victims have been admitted to identify them and contact the commission located in the governorate of North Kivu province. »

This Sunday afternoon, the government delegation received leaders of the various youth and motorcyclist associations. The aim is to reduce the tension that is still high in Goma this Sunday evening.
