The production of the play Salle de nouvelles, postponed during the lockdown, will finally be performed in Montreal in September. Lee Hall’s adaptation (from the film Network) is directed by Marie-Josée Bastien. The latter is also artistic director of Théâtre Stratégie Parking in Quebec, which produces the show together with Trident and Duceppe. Denis Bernard plays the role of Howard Beale in an impressive cast of 12 actors based in both Quebec and Montreal.

Justin Laramée in Milk Run

Acclaimed by critics in both Quebec and Montreal is Run delait, Justin Laramée’s documentary play that examines the psychological strain faced by producers. This show is “harrowing, shocking and disturbing,” wrote Stéphanie Morin last November. The tour continues this fall in Quebec, doing just five performances at the Jean Duceppe Theater.

Following L’orangeraie, Coup de vieux marks a new and (highly anticipated) collaboration between director Claude Poissant and writer Larry Tremblay. This co-production between Trident and the Center du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui features six artists from Montreal and Quebec: Sylvie Drapeau, Jacques Girard, Linda Sorgini, Jacques Leblanc, Marie Gignac and Thomas Boudreault-Côté.

Courville was founded in September 2021 with Robert Lepage at Le Diamant and will officially open the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde season. Quebec artist Olivier Normand takes on the lead role created by Lepage. Surrounded by a dozen puppets, he stands on stage to tell the story of youthful torment. Lepage was inspired by the traditional Japanese art of Bunraku in this show produced by Ex Machina.

The talented Alexandre Fecteau directs the theatrical adaptation (by Véronique Côté) of Jonas Gardell’s bestseller. “Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves” recalls the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s and its consequences for the lives of a group of gay men in Sweden around the young Rasmus, played by Olivier Arteau. A touching portrait of the ravages of this disease at the time.

A sample of pissing while standing without lifting your skirt, by Olivier Arteau, created at the Center du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui. With Lucie M. Constantineau, Laurence Gagné-Frégeau, Zoé Tremblay-Bianco, Vincent Roy and Ariel Charest. The piece will be performed again at Périscope next winter.

In March 2022, Olivier Arteau brought his creative residency at the Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui full circle with this play with an amusing title, featuring long-time friends of Quebec’s millennial generation. They will gather at an apartment for Ariel’s (Ariel Charest) bachelor party. All delusions are permitted. Resuming in May 2024 at Périscope in Quebec. Text and direction are by Olivier Arteau. Pissing standing up without lifting your skirt is produced by Kata Theater in collaboration with the Center du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui.

David Paquet’s piece is loosely inspired by the work of the German Frank Wedekind, who deals with the awakening of sexuality in a group of young people.
