Paris, September 4 (RHC) French President Emmanuel Macron defended this Monday the ban on going to school with the abaya, a long dress worn by Muslims among others, a measure that he attributed to the secularism of the state.

In an interview with a YouTube channel on the occasion of the start of the 2023-2024 school year, the president assured that the decision is not aimed at stigmatization, given the controversies that have arisen, which include complaints about discrimination against Muslims advertisements to present legal resources.

This is an issue on which we must be adamant because it threatens the conditions of free, secular and compulsory education, we do not want to know where children come from or what they think, it is a question of justice and the education of children Republicans and citizens said.

According to various sources, the ban on the abaya (women’s clothing) and the kami (men’s clothing) did not cause any particular incidents in France this Monday, when around 12 million students returned to the classroom.

Regarding uniforms, Macron advocated “experiments” as long as they do not evoke religion.

The decision, announced at the end of August by Education Minister Gabriel Attal, caused unease in some sectors of society, with the La Francia Insumisa party being one of the most critical. (Source:PL)
