New York – An American family destroyed, a 14-year-old star student and athlete died of excruciating stomach pains. Harris Wolobah could be the first victim of the new challenge raging on TikTok: the “One Chip Challenge”the test for those who resist the longest after consumption Tortilla chips is considered the hottest of all. This challenge, which was launched on the Chinese social platform last year, caused panic among parents as students jumped into the challenge and tested themselves. Cases of illness, nausea, fainting and breathing problems have occurred in many schools, from Texas to Louisiana, where the super-spicy chips manufactured by Paqui have become a public danger since 2016.
But now there would be the first death. The alarm was raised on Friday when the mother of Harris Wolobah, an African-American student Worchester, Massachusetts, was called to school urgently: her son had severe stomach pain. When he was brought home, the boy initially felt better, but in the afternoon, just before he left the house to take part in the school basketball team selection, he became sick and died shortly afterwards. Now the autopsy will clarify the cause of death, but there seems to be no doubt about it.
What is the challenge?
According to local media reports, the decisive factor was a chip that Harris had eaten at school. A friend gave it to him so that he could take part in the challenge started on TikTok and promoted by the manufacturer himself: to withstand a spice bomb like no other in the world for longer without eating or drinking. Generally it doesn’t take more than a minute, a maximum of five, but anyone who can manage an hour is a real “Predator”.
The family itself confirmed the hypothesis. The chip is made with two of the strongest spices: the Carolina Reaper pepper and that Naga viper pepper. The first is taken into account the hottest everthe other is second in this special ranking. There is a colorful skull on the packaging. The super potato will be on sale at Amazon from August 9th. There are warnings on the company’s website and on the bags to warn consumers: “Do not eat if you are sensitive to spicy products, have a pepper allergy, or have any health problems” and “seek medical attention if you have difficulty breathing or Feel faint or feel persistent nausea.” The product is recommended for adults only. Harris was 14, like many of her peers who took part in a challenge that racked up billions of views on TikTok. The school district where the tragedy occurred ordered a ban on the product and provided Harris’ family with a team of psychological assistants.
