Taliban reject allegations of interference in aid to Afghanistan

Reacting to the latest UN Security Council report, Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said that the current government only guarantees the safety of aid organizations and does not interfere in the internal affairs of these entities.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan does not interfere in the affairs of any institution to disrupt its work. “We and our military are committed to ensuring their safety,” Mujahid said.

“Our demand to the aid organizations of the international community, especially the United Nations, is that political issues are not taken into account in humanitarian and development aid,” said Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The Security Council report noted that Taliban policies and practices are complicating efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan; and stated that last July, 56 programs were temporarily suspended due to access incidents, including disruptions in the conduct of humanitarian activities, restrictions on movement and violence against staff and facilities.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan said the reason for cutting aid to the Central Asian country was a lack of funds, stressing that they had only received 25 percent of the requested budget this year.
