Hot and humid weather: Heat records broken in Quebec –

The good weather finally showed itself over the long Labor Day weekend and several heat records were broken on Monday and Tuesday.

The cities of Shawinigan, New Carlisle, Baie-Comeau, Havre-Saint-Pierre and Natashquan all broke their September 4 high temperature records.

While Havre-Saint-Pierre and Natashquan repeated the feat on Tuesday, the city of La Tuque joined the club after returning from the long weekend. However, the new records for the day of September 5th will not be officially announced until the end of the day.

According to Simon Legault, meteorologist at Environment Canada, what is particularly unusual is the combination of heat and humidity that hits eastern Canada in September.

“The special thing about the situation is the additional humidity. Especially because we haven’t had much hot and humid weather this summer,” he said in an interview with QMI Agency.

The meteorologist emphasized that Tuesday and Wednesday will be the hottest days of this heat wave. More records could therefore be broken this week.

The weather will remain hot and humid across much of Quebec on Thursday and Friday before temperatures drop on Saturday and Sunday.

“We will see a return to seasonal normality early next week,” Mr Legault added.
