Britain is reportedly banning Russia’s Wagner Group as a “terrorist” organization

According to media reports, Great Britain wants to ban the Russian mercenary group Wagner as a terrorist organization.

“Wagner is a violent and destructive organization that has acted as a military tool of Vladimir Putin’s Russia abroad,” the Chron newspaper quoted Interior Minister Suella Braverman as saying.

According to reports, draft measures to ban Wagner under the Terrorism Act will be presented to parliament on Wednesday.

The measures would make it a criminal offense to support the group or be a member of a group. The law would also allow Wagner’s assets to be classified as terrorist property and confiscated.

“Wagner was involved in looting, torture and barbaric murder,” Braverman said.

She added that her work in Ukraine and Africa posed a “threat to global security.”

“That is why we condemn this terrorist organization and continue to support Ukraine wherever we can in its fight against Russia.”

The US warns North Korea that supplying weapons to Russia will have consequences

North Korea will “pay a price” if it supplies Russia with weapons for its war against Ukraine, the White House said.

Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser, told reporters that Pyongyang and Moscow were eyeing “leadership-level discussions, perhaps even face-to-face.”

The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was about discussing possible arms transfer agreements.

With additional supplies, Moscow could “attempt to conquer territories that belong to another sovereign nation.”

“This will not reflect well on North Korea and they will pay a price for it in the international community,” Sullivan added.

The Kremlin said Tuesday it was unable to confirm reports of the possible meeting. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “We have nothing to say about this.”

A meeting with Putin would be Kim’s first summit with a foreign leader since North Korea closed its border in January 2020.

They first met in April 2019, two months after the collapse of Kim’s high-risk nuclear diplomacy with former US President Donald Trump.

Putin is “desperate” when reaching out to Pyongyang, a German lawmaker says

German lawmaker Falko Drossmann told DW he was concerned about reports of a meeting between the leaders of Russia and North Korea because they showed Moscow was “desperate” for new weapons.

“How desperate Vladimir Putin is that the last state he can work with is North Korea,” said Drossman, who is a member of the center-left Social Democrats.

He also said it was clear that the sanctions were hurting Russia and the country now has a problem.

“She [Russia] I don’t have any new weapons. They don’t have modern technology. So they have to use very old-fashioned weapons from the USSR, especially artillery, and that is actually the ammunition that North Korea can provide because they still use the same weapons.”

Asked whether he was worried about warming relations between the two countries, especially given North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, Drossmann said the bigger concern was that “Russia starts a war in the middle of Europe and kills thousands.” “
