Montreal: A restaurant attacked by a Molotov cocktail in Saint-Henri

Montreal police are investigating an attempted arson attack on a restaurant in the Saint-Henri area on Wednesday morning.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) was alerted around 5 a.m. to an incendiary object thrown at a restaurant on Rue Notre-Dame Ouest, near Rue Bérard.

The police officers dispatched to the scene discovered that the window of the restaurant was broken and an incendiary object was burning inside the closed restaurant.

According to initial information, the suspects first broke the window of the store, threw a Molotov cocktail and fled before the police arrived.

No one was injured and there was no damage to the business with the exception of the broken window, said SPVM spokeswoman Véronique Dubuc.

A large security perimeter was set up to protect the crime scene and preserve evidence while police attempted to locate possible witnesses to the event.

Investigators from the SPVM arson module will therefore lead the investigation and try to clarify the circumstances of this event, it said.
