The AMPTP called out the Writers Guild on Friday evening after the guild released a statement saying that several of the legacy companies had privately “expressed both a desire and a willingness to negotiate an agreement that would address the problems of the authors appropriately concerned”.

In response, the Association of Film and Television Producers said tonight: “AMPTP member companies are united and are negotiating together to find a solution.” Any claim to the contrary is false.”

The AMPTP continued: “Every AMPTP member company wants a fair deal for writers and actors and an end to the strikes that are affecting not only our fellow writers and actors, but thousands of others across the industry.”

“For this reason, the AMPTP has repeatedly presented offers that address key WGA priorities, including a final round of offers on August 17 and 18. We are close to each other on many topics, including AI. Our AI proposal provides clear guarantees that the use of AI will not impact authors’ pay, creditworthiness or separate rights. We asked the WGA to identify any remaining gaps in AI offerings and they have not responded.

“On the important issue of mandatory staffing, the WGA has remained consistent with its original position, with the exception of a single minor change to its position on staffing in development spaces.

“The WGA has achieved significant benefits for its members throughout this negotiation process and has the power to advance these negotiations by responding to the AMPTP’s recent overtures on key issues. The AMPTP, including all of its member companies, remains committed to finding a solution.”

The AMPTP also presented a timetable of proposals that have so far failed to end the writers’ strike that began on May 2nd.
