In response to the Russians, the text states that the governments affirm that the G20 is “the most important forum for international economic cooperation” and that they recognize that, although the G20 is not the platform for resolving geopolitical and security issues “But we recognize that these problems may have significant consequences for the global economy.”
Countries also “highlight the human suffering and additional negative impacts of the war in Ukraine on global food and energy security, supply chains, macrofinancial stability, inflation and growth, which shape the policy environment for countries, particularly developing countries and least developed countries.” Countries still recovering from the Covid19 pandemic and the economic disruption that has hampered progress towards the SDGs. There were different views and assessments of the situation.”
The Governments call on the Russians and Ukrainians to “full, timely and effective implementation of the Agreement to enable Ukrainian grain exports and to ensure rapid and unhindered deliveries of grain, food and fertilizer/inputs from the Russian Federation and Ukraine.” This is necessary to meet the needs of developing and least developed countries, particularly in Africa.
Calls for “a halt to military destruction or other attacks on relevant infrastructure.” We are also deeply concerned about the negative impact that conflict has on the security of civilians, exacerbating existing socioeconomic fragilities and vulnerabilities and hampering an effective humanitarian response.
The text also makes an appeal:
“We call on all members to uphold the principles of international law, including territorial integrity and sovereignty, international humanitarian law and the multilateral system that protects peace and stability. Peaceful resolution of conflicts and efforts to address crises, as well as diplomacy and dialogue are crucial. We will unite in our efforts to address the negative impact of the war on the global economy and welcome all relevant and constructive initiatives that support a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine that upholds all the purposes and principles of the United Charter Nations to promote peaceful, friendly and goodneighborly relations among nations.
