Eastern Economic Forum kicks off in Vladivostok, Russia

The four-day Eastern Economic Forum begins in Vladivostok, Russia, on Sunday. Last year, participants from a total of 68 countries attended the meeting; Russia intended to strengthen its relations with Asian countries. This year, the New York Times speculated about a possible meeting between Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the forum. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Saturday that he knew “nothing about this.”

According to the New York Times, US government officials considered it “likely” that Kim traveled in an armored train to the city on the Pacific coast, which is close to the border with North Korea. According to Peskov, the most important guest at the forum will be the vice-president of Laos in Southeast Asia, Pany Yathotou, with whom Putin will meet on Tuesday.
