Dermot O’Leary admits being a 50-year-old father of a toddler is “completely” as he opens up about the changes in life since becoming a parent
Dermot O’Leary has spoken about being a father to a toddler and how parenting has changed his priorities.
The 50-year-old TV presenter lives in London with his wife Dee Koppang O’Leary and their three-year-old son Kasper.
Speaking to the Times, he explained how much energy it takes to keep up with his young son and said it could be “on full swing”.
Dermot said: “I turned 50 this year and being a father to a three-year-old can be very special.” A friend who gave birth to twins shortly before Kasper’s arrival told me: “Don’t worry about how old you are, just make sure you stay in shape.” And he’s right. I took Kasper to the RAF Museum recently and it was like an Olympic sprint, racing from one exhibit to the next. As soon as we came out he said, “Can we walk around again?”
He went on to describe his love of family time, saying that the daily chores of changing diapers or playing silly games were the best.

He explained: “Dee’s work means we’re not always together, but on the evenings we are together we enjoy the time we spend together as a family.” I can’t understand the parents who don’t enjoy it have to change diapers or crawl around on the carpet pretending to be a race car. Isn’t that the absolute joy of being a parent?’
Dermot added that with the birth of his son, his priorities in life shifted from his material needs to how he wants to spend his free time.
He said: “Having a child has changed what I want out of life and what makes me happy.” Do I need another car? The latest gadget? A little vintage Van Morrison vinyl? No, forget the material things. I want to be with the people I love. “Being a father puts the world in perspective.”
Dermot announced in an Instagram post in June 2020 that his wife Dee had given birth to their first child
He posted a sweet photo of a personalized onesie and wrote, “Welcome to the world baby Koppang O’Leary… We’re excited to announce we’ve had a baby!”
“A baby boy born on Tuesday June 23, 2020 (Sankthansaften / Midsummer for you Norwegians) at 8:19 a.m. weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces.
“Enjoy cuddling in the newborn bubble…cats who aren’t 100% convinced yet.” Much love, Dermot & Dee x.”
The couple met in 2002 while working for the same television production company and got engaged in New York in December 2011 before tying the knot the following year.

This comes after Dermot returned to This Morning following his summer holiday break on Friday.
But as she greeted his co-host Alison Hammond, she accidentally left a makeup stain on his T-shirt.
Welcoming Dermot back to the show, the pair hugged as Alison exclaimed she felt like she had “her warm blanket next to me”.
But as Dermot pulled away, the star noticed the accident as she pointed to his shoulder, which was stained with a stain from Alison’s foundation.
“Oh no, oh no,” Alison cried, while Dermot screamed “Already!”
“It’s a Hammondater,” the star joked, before apologizing for the unfortunate stain on his pale cream top.
“I’m sorry, why do you always push yourself into me?” she asked before apologizing further: “I’m so sorry, I saw it straight away.”
