Following the recent earthquake that struck Al Haouz and surrounding areas, the Kingdom, led by the King, is mobilizing to help the victims and rebuild the affected areas. To facilitate the management and distribution of aid, Bank Al-Maghrib has established a special fund in collaboration with government authorities.
The 7 degree earthquake caused major material and human damage in several areas of the Marrakesh region, including Al Haouz. The residents lost their homes, their possessions and unfortunately some also their lives. The number of victims of the earthquake is currently 2,122 dead and 2,421 injured (preliminary estimate).
In the face of this disaster, Morocco calls for both national and international solidarity to support the victims.
The special fund opened with Bank Al-Maghrib allows people in Morocco to donate in different ways. Citizens can make cash deposits, bank transfers or mobile phone payments via banking applications. In addition, Bank Al-Maghrib branches and agencies are available to collect donations.
Anyone who would like to donate from abroad can do so by check to the auditor or by bank transfer. Necessary information such as RIB and SWIFT code are available to facilitate transactions.
According to authorities, the funds collected will be used to provide emergency assistance to victims, including providing emergency shelter, food, drinking water, medical care and other basic needs. In addition, part of the funds will be allocated to rebuilding damaged infrastructure such as roads, schools and hospitals.
In a statement released on Sunday afternoon, the government said it was working closely with local authorities to ensure aid reaches those who need it most. Teams of volunteers, rescue workers and medical professionals have been deployed to affected areas to provide support and expertise.
