Carrie Underwood opened the 2023 Sunday Night Football season with a rousing rendition of “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.” During her performance, she strutted down the catwalk and behind the drums. This is the 11th consecutive season that the country star has been the voice of NBC’s Sunday Night NFL Game.
“Once again, the incredible Sunday Night Football team came up with a fresh, exciting visual concept that really gave us a chance to play,” Underwood said in a statement. The opening’s sensory overload saw the “Out of That Truck” singer perform in concert from Las Vegas. “I had a lot of fun filming the inaugural show again this year at our second home, the Resorts World Theater in Las Vegas, and I can’t wait for another football season!” she said. In the first week’s game of Sunday Night Football, the New York Giants hosted the Dallas Cowboys.

Underwood has seemingly been everywhere lately, releasing a deluxe edition of her album Denim & Rhinestones. Last month, she took the stage with Guns N’ Roses in Nashville to perform “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City” with singer Axl Rose, and also opened the show, her third stop on GN’R’s summer tour . Underwood’s set included her own material as well as covers such as Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” and Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” (whose “I Hate Myself for Loving You” inspired the melody for “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night”).
The Oklahoma native also recently opened up about her love of hard rock in a special SiriusXM interview, in which she combined her satellite radio channel Carrie’s Country with SiriusXM’s heavy rock channel Octane.
