Morocco has accepted the help offered by four countries, namely Spain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, and “who have proposed the mobilization of several search and rescue teams,” the Interior Ministry confirmed in a press release published Sunday evening.

In addition, it is specified that the list of countries that could intervene to provide assistance to the victims of Friday evening’s earthquake could be extended.

“As the intervention missions progress, the assessment of possible needs could evolve, which would make it possible to draw on offers of support from other friendly countries, depending on the specific needs of each phase,” the ministry said.

Although Morocco has not yet requested international aid at this time, it is noted that the Kingdom “welcomes all initiatives of solidarity coming from the different regions of the world and which show the degree of respect and recognition of these countries”. of Morocco’s constant commitment and its diverse contributions to international humanitarian aid efforts”.

It should be noted that several countries, including France, signaled their willingness to help with Moroccan aid in the first hours after the earthquake, but are still awaiting a response to possibly deploy their teams.

As a reminder, a powerful magnitude 7 earthquake, which had its epicenter in the city of Ighil in the Marrakech region, was followed by several aftershocks in a very large part of the country, including Casablanca, Rabat and even Agadir.
