Recently, a strange golden ball was found in the sea during an expedition in the Gulf of Alaska. Although they have not yet discovered the object’s origin, researchers were impressed by the results of the initial analysis.
Research shows that the object is of biological origin and not much more. “Although we were able to collect the ‘golden ball’ and bring it to the ship, we are still unable to identify it, other than the fact that it is of biological origin,” said Sam Candio of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). . The coordinator of the Ocean Exploration Expedition, in a statement.
What do you need to know?
- A strange golden object was found in the ocean;
- The origin is still unknown;
- Material is organic.
Although it’s a little humbling to be perplexed by this discovery, it reminds us how little we know about our own planet and how much there is still to learn and appreciate about our ocean.

How was the mysterious object found?
According to Live Science, the sphere was found during the Ocean Exploration expedition and was located about 3,300 meters deep in an underwater mountain in Alaska.
The researchers now plan to conduct laboratory analyzes of the object to find out what it is. (Image credit: NOAA Ocean Exploration, Seascape Alaska)
- It is 10 centimeters wide;
- A hole near the base that could be an egg carton;
- A strange golden color.
It is not yet possible to say whether the object is waste of a known type or something completely new. Further investigations will be carried out in the coming weeks to determine the origin.
“We probably won’t know more until we can get it to a lab where we can continue to leverage the collective experience of the scientific community with more sophisticated tools than we can keep on the ship,” Candio concludes.
