US President Joe Biden took advantage of the commemoration of the devastating terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 to call for unity in the country.
“We must never lose this sense of national unity,” Biden said yesterday (local time) at a military base in Alaska, commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the attacks. The attack united the country at the time. “Let us honor 9/11 by renewing our faith in each other,” he urged. “Let’s remember who we are as a nation.”
On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the United States in the worst terrorist attack to date. Islamic terrorists flew three hijacked planes into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon near Washington. A fourth plane crashed in the state of Pennsylvania.
“It’s more important than ever that we come together”
Faced with the great political division in the country, Biden called for a return to the cohesion of that time. “It is more important than ever that we unite around the principle of American democracy, regardless of our political background,” said the Democrat. The country must not succumb to the senseless politics of differences and divisions and allow itself to be torn apart by petty disputes. “We have to stay united.”
