Stock market today: Dow futures trending lower; Apple and Oracle stocks in focus – The Wall Street Journal

It’s a big day for Apple, the most valuable company in the world. Apple will unveil new iPhones on Tuesday as part of its annual hardware refresh, which begins at 1 p.m. ET.

Investors are also weighing Apple’s fate in China, the company’s third-largest market, where authorities have urged government workers not to use iPhones for work and where local rival Huawei has launched new high-end smartphones.

Apple shares remained stable in premarket trading. The index heavyweight is up 38% this year, outpacing the S&P 500’s 17% rise.

Futures linked to the most important US indices fell.

Shares of software giant Oracle plunged in premarket tradingafter it reported quarterly sales that disappointed investors.

Japan Nikkei 225 closed down almost 1%, building on a recent rally. Japanese stocks have disappointed investors in the past, but asset managers believe this time could be different.

US Treasury yields fluctuated. The 10-year yield settled at 4.287% on Monday.

Expected: Data on consumer prices, producer prices and retail sales are expected later this week. The Federal Reserve’s interest rate setting committee will meet next week.
