Kim Clavel (17-1) has a unique opportunity on October 7th against Argentina’s Evelin Nazarena Bermudez (18-1-1) and she won’t miss this opportunity.
The boxer from Montreal will then have a new chance to secure two titles: the IBF and WBO light flyweight world titles.
Last January she suffered her first career defeat against Mexican Yesica Nery Plata, holder of the WBA and WBC world titles. Clavel learned a lot that evening.
“It’s crazy, it’s the second unification fight I’ve had this year,” she said via video conference on Tuesday lunchtime.
“I feel more confident and know what to expect,” she said. It’s a completely different fight. It’s like a different way of talking to yourself within yourself. You can’t lie to yourself and I have really good self-talk.”
Hard camp
The 33-year-old boxer has had a long, twelve-week training camp that has been anything but pleasant so far.
“I feel uncomfortable all the time during training,” admits Clavel. I hung it in front of my bed and wrote my game plan on it. I watch it every morning when I get up and every night when I go to bed.”
Her trainer Danielle Bouchard confirms that she does not spare her protégé.
“Every day we put Kim in a zone of discomfort because it will be ten very difficult rounds. We are starting to see the results of our work. There are still 26 days left, which are very important.
“We also have very specific goals on rest days. In the remaining 26 days, Kim has to pay attention to every little detail.”
