King Mohammed VI at the bedside of those injured in the Marrakech earthquake

King Mohammed VI of Morocco visited the injured in the powerful earthquake that shook the country at a hospital in the tourist city of Marrakesh on Tuesday, the official MAP agency said.

The king went to Marrakesh University Hospital, where he “inquired about the health of the injured” before donating blood, the agency said.

The earthquake left 2,901 dead and 5,530 injured, according to the latest official report released on Tuesday. Its epicenter was in Al-Haouz province, south of Marrakesh.

Mohammed VI “visited the intensive care unit and the hospital ward for earthquake victims, where he inquired about the health status of the injured and the care provided to them,” the MAP added.

The king chaired a meeting in Rabat on Saturday to examine the post-earthquake situation and relief measures for the affected population.
