A journey through the history of Spain with Boris Izaguirre

A journey through the history of Spain with Boris Izaguirre in the new program “Desmontando” and four other proposals that you can see on TV today

In prime time on Wednesday there will be a battle between the competition The Floor, which broadcasts its second part on Antena 3, and two premieres, El Musical de tu vida on Telecinco, which combines great performances and interviews, and Desmontando, new space from La Sexta, in which Boris Izaguirre travels through Spain to investigate some episodes of its history. The two cinematic events of the day are of high quality: a classic by Henry King, “The Gunslinger”, and a great international film by José Luis Borau, “Downriver”.

“The shooter”

10/18, TCM

The Gunslinger by Henry King

The Gunfighter. 1950 (84 minutes). Director: Henry King. Cast: Gregory Peck, Helen Westcott, Millard Mitchell.

Perhaps few fans today remember the great Henry King, the author of wonders like “Souls at the Stake” and “Farewell Hill.” In this majestic work, he retraces one of the first demystifying Westerns, long before the arrival of Sam Peckinpah, and focuses on the figure of a gunman who wants to lay down his weapons and fights against the inevitability of his fate.

“Downriver”

10 p.m., Spanish cinema Movistar

Downriver, by José Luis Borau

On the line. Spain-USA, 1984 (103 minutes). Director: José Luis Borau. Cast: David Carradine, Scott Wilson, Victoria Abril.

Downriver has remained almost like a forgotten film. However, what was once known as Borau’s American Adventure is a magnificent work nourished by the human dramas of the United States-Mexico border. Filmed in Laredo (Texas) and Nuevo Laredo (Mexico), Borau films with eager energy and integrates into his humanistic and committed story a love story that is presented without fuss: the one between a subject who persecutes irregular immigrants and a Mexican prostitutes arise.

Boris Izaguirre and the history of Spain

10:30 p.m., sixth

Boris Izaguirre and Miguel Ángel Revilla in Desmontando, broadcast on La Sexta

Boris Izaguirre takes a special tour through the history of Spain in Desmontando, a new format from La Sexta that highlights the country’s most significant historical milestones in a didactic but also entertaining way. In this first part, Izaguirre focuses on the memory of the Spanish Empire and will later address topics such as the history of Al-Andalus or the Camino de Santiago.

Premiere of “The Musical of Your Life”

10:45 p.m., Telecinco

The musical of your life, broadcast on Telecinco

Telecinco’s new bet brings together genres as diverse as the talk show and the Broadway musical. The intention of El Musical de Tu Vida is to create a live show inspired by the lives of the guests of each part. Tonight the program begins with the presence of Lolita, who herself will be a spectator of the program’s musical numbers based on popular songs. The following episodes will feature characters such as Miguel Bosé, Tamara Falcó, Paulina Rubio and Ana Obregón.
