An owner’s nightmare: her house was ransacked and stained with urine

Lucie Guilbault found her house, which she had rented to a family for four years, in a deplorable condition.

Particular complaints included broken windows and stained appliances, while there was a strong smell of urine in several rooms in the house.

“We have done a lot of work. We removed floors and subfloors and it still smells like urine,” said Lucie Guilbault, owner of a home in Terrebonne.

After more than two months of work, the bill continues to grow.

“It’s not over yet. So far my fees are down to $12,000. [pour remettre le logement dans un état acceptable] and I work alone a lot. “I don’t know what the total bill is yet,” she says.

During her appearance on the 8:30 p.m. show with Pierre-Olivier Zappa on LCN, Ms. Guibault called for measures to protect owners to be added.

She wants the authorities to introduce tools to take action against bad tenants.

“I would like to have a list of bad tenants and a reasonable deposit when signing the lease,” she says.
