Retirement and return to Las Vegas for this defenseman

After 15 professional seasons, including a full decade in the National Hockey League (NHL), defenseman Nick Holden announced his retirement on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old quickly found a new career as he was hired by his former club, the Vegas Golden Knights, to take on a role in the player development department. He will work with the team’s junior players, particularly the defensemen.

Holden spent three election campaigns in the City of Vice between 2018 and 2021. He was then sent to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Evgenii Dadonov.

“Nick was highly respected by the staff, his teammates and the coaches during his time as a player with the Golden Knights. He plays an important role in the development of our players and will work not only with our draft prospects, but also with our young professionals at the Henderson Silver Knights.

Holden was never drafted and first joined the ranks of the Syracuse Crunch of the American League after his junior year. After five years in the minors, he made the jump to the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche in 2013-2014.

He played 654 games and recorded 178 points on the Bettman circuit, also wearing uniforms for the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Boston Bruins.
