Shane Wright gets a favor

According to the Seattle Times, the Kraken’s general manager convinced the National Hockey League (NHL) and Ontario Junior League (OHL) to grant Shane Wright an exemption to play exclusively in the American League (AHL) if he fails to do so does Secure a position in the team.

Last season, Wright reported to the Windsor Spitfires (OHL) after playing his first eight games on the Bettman circuit.

The 19-year-old forward, selected fourth overall in the 2022 draft, began the 2022-2023 season with the Kraken. He had one goal and one assist (Watch his goal in the video above).

Wright also played five games for the Coachella Valley Firebirds (AHL) in the fall before participating in the World Junior Championship with Canada. He was then sent to the OHL, where the Spitfires acquired him from the Kingston Frontenacs in exchange for two players and seven draft picks.

After the Spitfires were eliminated, Wright returned to the Firebirds for the playoffs. He had nine points in 24 games.

The NHL has an agreement with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) for junior players. Typically, they must be transferred to their club in the WHL, OHL or QMJHL if they do not play in the NHL.
