The pop icon recently said that ageism has gone out of fashion following the success of her viral hit ‘Padam Padam’.

Speaking to Radio Times, Kylie said the younger generation has embraced her and it’s just old-school intuitions like record labels that are still behind the times.

“There was something like that on Padam where it surprised people and was aired on ‘youth-oriented’ radio. But I think we live in a time where it’s not cool to be age dependent. People are over it,” she told the publication.

“What’s really interesting is that it’s the younger people who are saying, ‘We love the song.'” “The current mindset is amazing and a breath of fresh air,” she continued.

“You can like what you like, be what you want to be.” That’s helping me right now.’

Padam Padam’s unexpected success was largely thanks to TikTok, where the song became a popular meme and introduced the singer to a brand new audience of younger fans.

Meanwhile, Padam Padam is still making gains in the US, a notoriously difficult market for the Australian pop star.

The song just peaked at No. 30 on Mediabase’s Pop Radio Airplay chart, becoming her most successful radio single in the U.S. since 2004’s “Slow.”

This comes after Padam Padam songwriter Lostboy, aka Pete Rycroft, called British radio an “agenob” and claimed the mega-hit could have been bigger.

Pete, who co-wrote the song with Norwegian hitmaker Ina Wroldsen, criticized Radio 1 and Capital for only adding the song to their playlists after fans pointed it out.

“We tried to get it played on the radio,” he told The Independent.

“It was everywhere, everyone was talking about it and it hit at least the top two places in the charts – but Radio 1 and Capital refused to play it, essentially because it’s her.” [Kylie’s] an older woman.’

Rycroft further called attention to the blatant sexism, adding that David Guetta is often added and the two are the same age.

She expressed her opinion,

“I could see it as clear as day; “It was definitely a wake-up call,” he said.

“There are other 55-year-old artists, like David Guetta, and he’s obviously all over the radio because he’s a guy and he’s got some great songs.”

“Padam” should have been there from the start and it’s just a reflection on Radio 1.”
