Drew Barrymore will not present the 74th National Book Awards after she decided to continue her talk show amid an actors and writers strike.

In a statement posted on “In light of the announcement that production of The Drew Barrymore Show is resuming, the National Book Foundation has rescinded Ms. Barrymore’s invitation to present at the 74th National Book Awards,” the statement said. “Our aim is to ensure the awards remain focused on celebrating writers and books and we are grateful to Ms Barrymore and her team for their understanding in this situation. »
The National Book Foundation has not indicated whether a replacement has been selected.
The Drew Barrymore Show host defended her decision to return to the talk show in an Instagram post on Sunday. “I accept this choice. “We agree not to discuss or promote films or television shows of any kind,” the star wrote. I want to be there to convey what screenwriters do so well, to bring us together or to help us understand the human experience. I hope that a solution can be found for everyone as quickly as possible. We have been through tough times since we first appeared on screen. And so I take a step forward to begin season four with humility again. »
Strikers demonstrated outside the CBS Broadcast Center in New York, where the show is filmed, as tapings resumed on Monday. The Drew Barrymore Show will return to air starting September 18th.
