Three days after the devastating floods in eastern Libya, the death toll is now over 3,800, the Interior Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday, September 13th. More than 3,000 of them have already been buried. Previous figures released early Tuesday afternoon showed 2,300 deaths from Storm Daniel. Among these victims, 400 are of foreign origin. According to the authorities, the majority are Sudanese and Egyptians.

This number could rise in the coming hours: On Tuesday evening, more than 5,000 people remained missing, and around 7,000 more were reported injured by emergency services. Three volunteers from the Libyan Red Crescent also died during the rescue operations.

The Elysée said it would send a field hospital to “accommodate around a hundred victims per day,” said Frédéric Harrault, French civil security spokesman.
