Acknowledging that “there is discontent across the country about the cost of living,” Justin Trudeau announced Wednesday that his government would work hard to accelerate housing construction.

“This is an extremely difficult time for all Canadians. “We are faced with too high prices for housing, food and gasoline,” Trudeau said.
While in London, Ontario, the prime minister promised to spend the afternoon “listening” to what his MPs have to say to him after a summer in their constituency at the Liberal caucus meeting that precedes the start of the legislative session.
Even before meeting his team, Mr. Trudeau took the bull by the horns by preparing, together with the new minister in charge of the file, Sean Fraser, an announcement on housing, which has become a real Achilles heel of his government.
Locally, he brought back to the fore the Housing Acceleration Fund, which will allow the City of London to build 2,000 housing units for $74 million.
This is the first city to benefit from this special fund created with the presentation of the 2022 federal budget.
” We call […] all mayors across the country [à] Show ambition, be there to accept federal investments, drive densification and construction […]anything that will enable us to respond to this housing challenge,” Mr. Trudeau said.
“We know property prices cannot continue to rise,” he added.
