Argentine President Alberto Fernández will leave for Havana this Thursday to attend the US leaders’ summit Group of 77+Chinawhich will take place between Friday and Saturday.
The President’s agenda begins tomorrow at the Palace of Congress in Havana, where the opening ceremony and the general debate will take place; He will then attend Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel’s dinner at the Palace of the Revolution.
The summit, whose aim is to reduce the technological gap between the North and the South and whose theme is “The current challenges of development: role of science, technology and innovation”, will continue on Saturday with a new debate and the presentation of completed the final declaration.
The delegation accompanying Fernández consists of the Chancellor Santiago Cafiero; the Secretary General of the Presidency, Julio Vitobello; presidential spokesperson Gabriela Cerruti and Argentine Ambassador to the United States Jorge Argüello.
According to Argentine media, the island will also seek to renegotiate Havana’s historic debt to Argentina, which would amount to $2,816 million.
The G77+China is the largest forum for consultation and dialogue within the United Nations, bringing together all of Latin America and the Caribbean – excluding Mexico -, Africa, the Middle East and much of Asia – excluding Russia.

It currently consists of 134 countries, representing 80% of the world’s population and two-thirds of the members of the United Nations.
The summit, attended by around thirty heads of state and more than a hundred delegations, represents, according to many experts, a diplomatic success for Havana, but also a huge logistical and economic challenge for the island in the midst of the severe crisis and multidimensional suffering.
