Danièle Sauvageau explains her choice

Now it’s official: Kori Cheverie will lead the Montreal team in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (LPHF).

During an interview with Félix Séguin on Friday, Danièle Sauvageau explained why she was chosen.

“I had the pleasure of working with Kori last season. I learned from her, we learned together and we learned that we can work together and grow together. That was a very important criterion for me. At the end of the year she was named Coach of the Year. It was the players who voted. I understood that she was valued by the players as much as by me and the rest of the team.

The director general of Montreal education believes Cheverie’s experience made her an essential candidate for the position.

“She has an exceptional track record. She was an assistant on the Ryerson men’s varsity team. She has been with Hockey Canada since 2018. She was invited by the Pittsburgh Penguins. On a technical level, she was confronted with several philosophies and different systems. When we talk about hockey, it’s a long conversation and she’s always looking for the best solution.

Sauvageau believes the language barrier will soon no longer be a problem. Cheverie is determined to learn French and has already taken steps to achieve her goal.

“She’s already in Montreal. She is already registered for courses. How long it will take? She knows she has to learn it as quickly as possible. We’ll give him a little chance. One thing is certain: she knows the market well and wants to learn French.”
