My Mother Your Father fans break down in tears as Roger says he is “broken” after the death of his beloved wife in an emotional conversation with his daughter Jess

My Mother Your Father viewers admitted they burst into tears as Roger had an emotional heart-to-heart with his daughter Jess in Friday’s episode.

In the latest episode of the ITV middle-aged dating show, two of the adult children went to their parents to give them important advice.

Presenter Davina McCall told the children that only two of them could go to their parents, but crucially couldn’t reveal that they had been secretly watching them.

Roger’s daughter Jess and Sharon’s daughter Tia were both chosen to visit their parents, both of whom had their own problems during their time on the series.

And viewers admitted they burst into tears during Roger’s sweet chat with Jess, in which he heartbreakingly said he was “broken” after his wife’s death.

Roger lost his beloved wife Joanne – and Jess’ mother – to cancer last year and told the show how she fell asleep on the sofa and never woke up.

And speaking to Jess, Roger opened up about how “broken” he was as he discussed whether or not he thinks he’s ready to get back into the dating pool.

Jess asked him, “Did it make you think you were ready, did it do the opposite and make you realize you weren’t?”

To which Roger replied, “Halfway,” as Jess advised him to let the women know if he was interested in them.

Then he said, “I think people just need to invest a little time in me.”

Jess then said to him: ‘But why would they do that if they don’t know you’re interested in them?’ You have to tell them.’

Roger then said, “I ain’t got no moves, I ain’t got no moves.” I’d like to go on a date with Janey to see if there’s something there. I know I’m a little broken.’

But Jess assured him: “You’re not broken, you’ve been through something traumatic, but you’re still yourself and I think you need to realize that.”

Reacting to the heartbreaking exchange, viewers on social media were quick to admit they were emotional and shared how much they support Roger.

One wrote: “And the second night… I honestly don’t cry,” another said: “Oh my God.” Roger is just heartbreaking. I love him.’

A third tweeted: “My god Roger I’m literally cheering in your corner,” and a fourth commented: “I just want to hug Roger.”

“Great decision letting Roger’s daughter see him, give him great advice, adore Roger,” another added.

Later, Roger took Jess’ advice when he told Janey that he was interested in her and confessed that he was more interested in her than Caroline.

He said, “I like Caroline, I think I probably like you more, probably not, I do.”

To which Janey replied, “I did what you asked and now I don’t know if I’m ready for it. ‘I didn’t expect it.’

Speaking on camera, Jess said: “I’m really happy for Dad that he’s made his decision. He’s clearly at a point where he’s ready to be with someone. He’s totally with Janey, which is great.”

It comes after Roger was at odds over Caroline and Janey as he formed bonds with both of them.

Roger told the camera: “It feels a bit treacherous to put Janey ahead of Caroline,” as he gushed about how warmly Caroline had welcomed him.

But Elliott later reassured him: “Well done for telling someone you like them, that’s progress for you.”

Janey also met with Caroline and told her that Roger had expressed interest in her in a friendly exchange.

Caroline gently reassured Janey as the pair cemented their friendship and Caroline expressed her support for the couple despite having developed a connection with Roger.

Elsewhere, Tia also had the opportunity to give advice to her mother Sharon, who met Elliott.

Speaking in person, Tia told her mother to go “all in” with Elliott as she remained reticent to fully open up to him.

Sharon said: “He’s very attentive, very calming.” “I like Elliott, but I don’t want to close myself off straight away, I don’t trust my own judgment.”

But Tia told her, “From the sounds of it, if he’s being thoughtful and kind, if the time to just jump in is now.”

Later, Elliott gently told Sharon that he wasn’t interested in anyone else and would focus entirely on her as they sat holding hands.

However, Clayton also threw a spanner in the works when he expressed interest in Sharon and stunned her when he told him that she had developed a connection with Elliott.

The episode also had a sweet ending with Paul and Natalie kissing for the first time and the children covering their faces with pillows as they watched, wincing.

In a precious moment, Natalie said to him, “Everyone says you’re great, and that speaks volumes. The word that comes to mind is kind.”

To which Paul replied: “I just feel very comfortable around you, I think it’s perfect.”

He then leaned in and the couple shared their first kiss – and the first kiss of the series – as they cemented their affection for one another.

My Mother Your Father will return to screens on Monday with its final five episodes and a teaser revealed some of the twists to expect.

The couples were all seen going on dates together and tears were shed over the mysterious developments as there is more drama to come.

Davina also dropped the bombshell that at the final challenge her children would tell their parents if they approved of the romances that emerged.

After the parents find out about the twist that their children have been watching all along, the adult children are given the opportunity to give their parents their blessing – or not.

My Mum, Your Dad continues on Monday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Why did you nominate your father for the show? It was a mutual thing with my brother and sister and it was our way of basically telling him that we’d be happy for him to start dating if that’s what he wanted to do.

It was really a joke on our part because it meant we didn’t have to sit down and actually say it. It was a sneaky way of saying, ‘Oh, look at this, do you want to watch this?’ I never actually expected anything to come of it.

It was about putting Dad first. We had never really thought about ourselves or ourselves in this situation. I didn’t think about how I would react, I thought about him.

The reason is because he does the same for us and always puts family first. So it was just a way of telling him: Stop worrying about us. If he wasn’t ready, that was perfectly fine too. It wasn’t an ultimatum. It just said: If you want, you can, don’t worry about us.
