Margit Laufer returns to ORF on September 15th. After more than a year off, she is now moderating ZIB2 again.
After just over a year, the ORF presenter returns Margit Laufer (33) returned to the ZIB2 studio, now completely renovated. “Margit Laufer, who has returned from maternity leave, will welcome you to ZIB2 tomorrow,” announced Marie-Claire Zimmermann (48) about her colleague’s return at the end of the show on Thursday evening.
“The anticipation for our first child is huge and our lives will be turned upside down starting in the fall. But the joy of returning to the ‘ZiB family’ will also be great later on,” said Laufer, who was still pregnant at the time, in an ORF broadcast about her farewell on July 25, 2022. This Friday she will appear on camera again for the first time.

A lot has happened since her departure at the end of July 2022. For now, in her latest ZIB2, the now 33-year-old interviewed Energy Minister Leonere Gewessler about the gas emergency plan. Winter has come and gone, the country’s stoves continue to burn and gas storage facilities are still full of (Russian) natural gas.
But many things have remained the same: the government has still failed to pass the necessary climate protection law. And Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine is still ongoing.
Zimmermann remains at ZIB2
Marie-Claire Zimmermann, who originally returned to ZIB2 after twelve years as Laufer’s maternity leave representative, will remain at the important news program. The reason: young mother Laufer will only work part-time for now, as confirmed by ORF in response to a “Today” request.
This means that the ZIB moderator team has grown to a total of four people. In addition to the two women, Armin Wolf and Martin Thür also take turns greeting the audience.
A bit cruel from the broadcaster: on the ZIB2 website, Zimmermann is not yet listed as a presenter nor is he mentioned by name and can only be seen in a photo.
