Murder at Cantley Friday evening – Le Droit

The SQ received a call at around 11:15 p.m. on Friday from the public security police of the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais about a crime that occurred on the Montée des Érables between the Dépanneur des Érables and Rue Rémi, about fifteen kilometers to the north , took place in Ottawa.

The SQ has set up a command post and Montée des Érables is closed between Chemin Taché and Rue Rémi.

The man was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The elements of the investigation allowed it to be determined that it was a murder, confirms the SQ, which, however, did not provide any further details about the attack. This is the fourth murder of the year in the Quebec portion of the larger federal capital region, joining three murders committed in the Gatineau Territory since the beginning of the year.

Life goes on for the residents

The many residents found in the area did not hear any shots fired on Friday evening. However, a resident of the Impasse des Coniferes, which is part of the investigation site, heard a noise that could have come from a weapon.

“I went out with the dogs last night and heard a loud ‘pow,’ but I didn’t make a big deal about it,” said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous. There are often people here who set off fireworks in the evenings, so I didn’t make the connection to a problematic situation. However, I’m not surprised that it’s a murder, there are more and more of them everywhere.

The case is now in the hands of the SQ crime against persons team in collaboration with the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police.

Taché Road resident Alberto Couto heard nothing but is worried about what will happen next.

“I’ve lived here for 30 years, we weren’t used to that before. We have to be more careful. I can no longer leave my mower outside at night like I used to. It’s worrying.”

Daniel Potvin has lived in Cantley for almost 40 years and doesn’t say he’s surprised by the murder. “I’m not worried about my safety as long as the gesture is targeted. It seems like there are more and more murders everywhere. There are more mental health problems.”

There are currently no arrests and the on-site investigation is ongoing.
