A 5yearold child died in Italy on Saturday (16) when a military art patrol aircraft collided with the car in which he was traveling, the country’s defense ministry said.

The accident occurred near Turin and involved an MB339 aircraft that hit the ground during takeoff.

“The patrol had just taken off when the aircraft piloted by Major Oscar Del Do lost altitude and crashed for an unknown reason,” the ministry said.

According to La Repubblica newspaper, the pilot managed to parachute out, but part of the plane came loose and crashed into the car in which the girl was.

“The fire that broke out after the device hit the ground unfortunately hit a car passing by the site with four people on board, resulting in the death of a girl and injuries to the other three passengers,” the ministry explained.

The victim had traveled with his parents to attend the training of the Italian Air Force’s aerobatic patrol aircraft. According to local media, his 9yearold brother was seriously injured, while his parents and the pilot suffered minor injuries.
