Munich. According to police, nine people were slightly injured in a collision between two roller coaster cars at Munich’s Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest in Munich: nine injured in roller coaster accident

It is unclear why the accident occurred. Like all Oktoberfest attractions, the attraction was thoroughly inspected by TÜV before it began. The accident occurred on the first day of Oktoberfest, shortly after 10pm – just around ten hours after the raids and therefore the official start of the festival.

The injured suffered mainly bruises

The injured were examined thoroughly, said Michel Belcijan, operations manager at Aicher Ambulance. They mostly suffered bruises. Three patients were taken to hospital for further evaluation. It was initially not entirely clear whether this actually happened. According to Belcijan, travel accidents are common, but usually because passengers trip – often after drinking alcohol.

Family roller coaster train “Höllenblitz” crashed into carriage

A train on the “Höllenblitz” family roller coaster was stopped when the approaching train slowly backed away for unclear reasons after 10:10 pm on Saturday night, “Höllenblitz” managing director Willi Ottens reported on Sunday. Each of the trains was occupied by about 30 people. “There was a slight collision between the two trains and they all left independently,” Ottens said. All people were protected with ironing bars. No injuries were initially noticed upon exit.

“Obviously there was a technical defect in the system”

“Obviously there was a technical defect in the system. We are in the process of clearing it up,” Ottens said. TÜV is expected in the morning. It was bad for him – all precautions were taken in advance. According to Ottens, the “Höllenblitz” is the largest traveling indoor roller coaster in the world.
