What Deion Sanders and Jay Norvell said after the Rocky Mountain Showdown – Coloradoan

BOULDER – There was a lot of talk during the week leading up to the Rocky Mountain Showdown.

Jay Norvell’s comment on his weekly radio show, “When I talk to adults, I take off my hat and glasses,” went viral and sparked an angry response from Deion Sanders and the Colorado football team.

During Saturday’s pregame shows, Sanders asked the audience to keep the cameras rolling until they met after the game. After CU’s double overtime win, there wasn’t much of a show in their matchup amid the crowd that spilled onto the field.

Here’s what key parties said after the game.

Colorado State coach Jay Norvell

On his comments during the week:

“I spoke to my own team and really strengthened our work. That’s why these comments were made. This rivalry was going on for a lot longer before I got here and it will continue long after I leave. There’s always bad blood, that’s just the way it is. It doesn’t matter what I or Deion say. There will be bad blood. You have to get your team playing. That’s the key and that’s why these comments were for my kids.”

On the postgame meeting with Deion Sanders: “You can ask him.”

Colorado coach Deion Sanders

“Honestly, at one point in the game I said, ‘We can’t let this guy (Norvell) win. There’s no way we can let this guy win. The press conference will be unbearable if we let this guy win.’ it now.”

On the aftermath with Jay Norvell: “There was nothing significant. I know Shedeur got in the way somehow, but no. I don’t believe in it – I don’t have time for it. I’m in.” to bigger things. I’m happy for the brother, I really am, and I’m glad they thought they played a good game. I’m glad he’s the head coach. I’m really happy for any brother who does it in a successful way – I really am. I don’t know where all this stuff comes from, but I have to answer. You’re not going to just attack me and I’m going to sit back and say nothing – but I’m happy for this guy. I mean, I don’t know him, but I’m happy for him. I wish him the best. My success has nothing to do with his, so why shouldn’t I? Do you want him to succeed? I don’t know how people get so down. My blessing has nothing to do with his blessing.”

Colorado DB Shilo Sanders

“I think we were just out there fighting for hats and sunglasses. We did it, we got through it, they have to respect us when we wear hats and sunglasses and when Coach Prime does it and Coach Prime was raised right and we just proved that today.

Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders

On the pre-game scuffle: “Honestly, they just wanted attention and to go viral. That’s all it really meant to me.”
