Aonyx, a curious and happy boy, spent a perfect day with his father. The two are enjoying the moment at a local playground when the child saw some kind of tuft of hair on the sidewalk. Surprised, he asked his father to find out what it was.
As the two approached, the tuft of hair seemed to move slowly, making them even more curious. Because what living creature could move like that, have such properties and be so small?
Aonyx’s father Jake shared the details of the adventure in an interview with news portal The Dodo. “We had no idea what it was until we got closer,” he revealed.
When they finally got close, they both understood what it was about. Father and son realized that the bump was actually a baby opossum. The little one appeared lonely and in serious danger of being injured.

Once the initial enchantment was over, a major concern arose: what would they do with the puppy? How would they help him survive without his mother?
“We watched the possum for about five minutes. Then we realized he was very small and probably should be with his mother. That’s when we decided to take action.”
Jake knew the opossum needed special care, so he contacted the Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue team and shared a picture of the little opossum.
Wildlife experts agreed with father and son: the cub should not be alone. With precise instructions in hand, Jake and Aonyx carefully picked up the little creature and placed it in a clean bag they found nearby.

With the pup in hand, Jake and Aonyx set out on a journey that would change the little possum’s life. As the possum rested in the bag, its curious eyes opened as if it knew it was safe.
Once they arrived at the shelter, the hungry pup was given the food and care he needed. While he recovers, he remains in the rescue’s care until he is strong enough to return to the forest, his true home.
Thanks to the quick thinking and courageous actions of Denniston and his son, this mysterious and adorable pup was given a second chance.
