Messina said her friend Barajas was infected with Vibrio vulnificus, a potentially deadly bacteria found in raw seafood and also seawater.

Regarding the infected woman’s situation, Messina added: “She didn’t know that this simple act would change her life forever.” Laura has been in the hospital for over a month and is fighting for her life. Now she’s a quadruple amputee.”
