Matt Chapman gave the Toronto Blue Jays the win with a hit in the ninth inning, giving them a 3-2 victory at Rogers Center on Sunday afternoon.
Chapman hit a double that hit the centerfield fence, allowing Cavan Biggio to round the lanes and score the game-winning run (Watch the main video). Biggio also had a strong shot, scoring twice on the trails.
The meeting was presented on TVA Sports 2.
John Schneider’s men just won their three-game series against the Red Sox. Furthermore, in the previous series between the two teams, they had passed the broom to the Massachusetts representatives.
This victory is more than advantageous for Toronto, as they have priority over the Texas Rangers at halftime of the game and are in second place among the teams drafted in the American League. Texas won all four games against the Jays earlier this week.
Jays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier scored the first run of the duel in the second inning.
Daulton Varsho, who had scored the game-winning run the day before with a triple in the ninth inning, stood out in Sunday afternoon’s duel. The Jays left fielder struck out his 17th of the season in the fifth inning, doubling his team’s lead.
However, Rafael Devers, who hit Saturday’s matchup with a home run, tied the game thanks to a solo slap shot in the ninth.
Jays starter Hyun Jin Ryu wasn’t up to speed in Sunday’s game. The left-hander allowed six hits in four and two-thirds of an inning on the mound.
Toronto will have a day off before returning to action on Tuesday against the New York Yankees in the Big Apple. Additionally, the team’s entire last 11 meetings will be against both the Tampa Rays and Yankees.
