SPOILER ALERT: This post contains details about the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4.

Keanu Reeves was tired at the end of filming John Wick: Chapter 4 and reportedly asked franchise producer Basil Iwanyk to leave the character alone.

In an interview with Collider, Iwanyk discussed the film’s ending – and the possibility of further chapters.

At the end of #4, Reeves’ Wick engages in a battle royale with his archenemies Donnie Yens Caine and Bill Skarsgårds Marquis on the steps of the Sacre Coeur in Paris. Long story short: Wick appears to die after the showdown.

But no. Or at least probably not.

“After the 2nd, 3rd and 4th films, making these films is so tiring and destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally,” Iwanyk said in the interview. “At the end he always says, ‘I can’t do that again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of his former self because he just goes for it and goes for it. He said, “I want to be killed for good at the end of this movie. We said, ‘You know, we’ll leave a little 10% opening.'”

Iwanyk, who is promoting upcoming Wick spin-off The Continental, said Reeves and Wick director Chad Stahelski are “coming together to figure out what that story is” for another possible Wick chapter.

“The way I describe it is they’re like Paul McCartney and John Lennon and I’m Ringo,” Iwanyk said. “They call me and tell me, ‘Okay, we’re coming.’ Here you show up and here’s our story.'” While he doesn’t immediately promise a Chapter 5, Iwanyk said, “We all want another John Wick.” We don’t know what it looks like or when it will happen, but we do love each other and we love this world.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 is streaming on Starz and available to purchase or rent via VOD services. “The Continental” premieres September 22 on Peacock.
