“People have no idea what I’ve been through in the last 5 years…”: Marilou releases the album Traits d’union – Le Journal de Montréal

At 32 years old, she has more than 20 years of experience in the industry show business. After a musical break of a decade in which she had to take care of herself, Marilou returns with Hyphensa new album that she delivers without compromise.

In 2017, Marilou bought a piano that was too big without really knowing what to do with it. Little by little she picked up this instrument again, which almost by chance and very slowly produced a first song, then another and another… Writing, composing, recording, co-producing, every step was healing for her.

“I would say that for 10 years there was only 5 years of silence. People have no idea what I’ve been through in the last five years… I’ve never made as much music as I have in these years. After therapy and working on myself, I discovered the artist that I am,” explains the businesswoman behind the success Three Times a Day.

A cultivated project

A thousand miles away from this tendency to “take things lightly,” Marilou insists on the rigor she shows in her discipline.

“I want to treat myself and my art with respect. The entire creative process was a series of periods of suffering, not necessarily pleasant, but liberating, like the song “Rosie.” It was a serious process that deserved ethics,” adds the young woman known for her great sensitivity.

It took a similarly rigorous work ethic to convince them to record an album again. Because the wounds of the past have left their mark on her heart as a singer who found herself in a “machine that was too big” when she was barely 12 years old (her first solo album, La Fille qui chante, sold 50,000 copies in just a few days). weeks and contained four number one songs, including a duet with Garou).

“You have to cultivate something. Because popularity and attention are not nourishing,” she whispers.

When Audiogram contacted her about recording, she had one ready but was very hesitant. Her demands were clear: she wanted to pay for her art and recordings, have full control over her music, from images to graphics to design and all artistic decisions.

“I’m glad that this album is not revenge for the past, but a ball of love that was created with patience. I really feel like this is my first record,” admits the artist, who is happy to have surrounded herself with musician Fred St-Gelais for this project.
