Browns running back Nick Chubb was sent off the field after suffering a horrific leg injury in the second quarter of Monday night’s game against the Steelers, as fans fear the four-time Pro Bowler’s season is now over.
The 27-year-old screamed in pain after colliding with Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick on Cleveland’s first-and-goal play with 14:26 left before halftime, at which point Pittsburgh led 7-3.
Fans in Pittsburgh responded with groans to replays shown on the big screen at Acrisure Stadium, as footage shows Chubb’s legs bending awkwardly beneath him as he is tackled by Fitzpatrick.
Additionally, Chubb’s left knee appeared to be almost completely square at the end of his five-yard run.
After the game, a teammate grabbed Chubb’s hand to help him to his feet, but Chubb shook his head and clutched his left knee, a possible sign of a season-ending injury.

Chubb ran 10 times for 65 yards before getting injured in the second quarter of Monday’s game
Chubb released his chin strap and rolled onto his side before medical staff and Browns teammates gathered him, some of them taking a knee and even praying.
Chubb suffered a serious injury to the same knee in 2015 while attending Georgia – a dislocation that resulted in three torn ligaments.
Like the previous injury, Monday night’s was difficult to follow, and ESPN declined to show replays of the game in which he was injured on television.
Chubb had rushed 10 times for 64 yards before his injury.
A knee injury ultimately ruled him out for the remainder of Monday’s game.
‘DAMN YOU!!!! “Nick Chubb,” LeBron James shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Praying for the absolute best.”
“Just the worst feeling. “Except for Nick Chubb,” tweeted JJ Watt. “I hope Minkah is okay.” Injuries suck, man. They absolutely suck.’
“That low blow is so brutal man, especially when you’re carrying someone!!” “I hate it so much that I’m so into Chubb man,” wrote Mark Ingram II – a former running back and sports anchor for Fox Sports.
Some retired NFL players and other athletes, including LeBron James, reacted to Chubbs’ injury
Chubb was replaced by Jerome Ford, who caught a 3-yard reception immediately after his exit. Ford then rushed for a 2-pointer to give Cleveland an 11-7 lead.
Chubb’s injury came on the same day it was announced that the NFL had filed a complaint against the NFL Players Association alleging that union leaders, including President JC Tretter, advised running backs to “feign or exaggerate injuries.” to increase their influence in contract negotiations.
The complaint filed on September 11th will be reviewed by an arbitrator.
In a memo sent to the league’s Board of Management and obtained by The Associated Press, the NFL said the union made the running backs proposal during a preseason Zoom meeting.
Any player who followed the union’s advice and feigned an injury was violating the collective bargaining agreement, the league argued.
