A razor advert depicting a transgender man with visible scars after breast removal has been heavily criticized in the UK for allegedly promoting cosmetic surgery.
“Promoting the removal of healthy breast tissue is not only scandalously immoral, but also violates advertising standards that recommend not glorifying or trivializing cosmetic surgery,” responded Maya Forstater, executive director of Sex Matters, a British education organization enforces laws surrounding a person’s gender, right up to The Telegraph.
In the electronics company Braun’s razor advertisement, we see a transgender man without a sweater who shaves his beard, revealing the scars from breast removal.
It didn’t take much for many activists to accuse the company of violating the instructions of the authority responsible for advertising standards.
The latter points out on its website that surgical procedures must always be “presented as something that requires time and thought and should never be presented as ‘safe’, ‘easy’ or ‘risk-free’, the British media reported.
Others instead accused the company of being “irresponsible” by “glorifying irreversible operations.” […] in a pure profit motive,” denounced James Esses, co-founder of a group of British psychologists concerned about the impact of gender ideologies on young people.
“This is woke capitalism at its best,” he continued, according to British media.
The controversy came shortly after an American men’s grooming company, Harry’s, was boycotted over its collaboration with transgender designer Luke Wesley Pearson.
Previously, beer company Bud Light also reported a significant 10.5% drop in sales following a partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
