Quebec filmmaker Ken Scott will spend part of the fall in France filming his next film. My mother, God and Sylvie Vartanwhich brings together several stars of French cinema on the screen.
Jonathan Cohen, Leïla Bekhti, Jeanne Balibar, Anne Le Ny and Sylvie Vartan herself are actually part of the cast of this adaptation of the novel of the same name by French author Roland Perez.
Filming began a few days ago in Paris and will last until November. The film, for which Ken Scott (Starbuck) also wrote the screenplay, is co-produced by the French giant Gaumont and the Prime Video platform. Quebec company Christal Films is involved in the project as a minority co-producer
Gaumont’s plan is to release the feature film in theaters before it becomes available on Prime Video 17 months later.
The novel “My Mother, God and Sylvie Vartan”, published in 2021, tells of the childhood of its author Roland Perez in an HLM in the 13th arrondissement of Paris with his Sephardic Jewish family of Moroccan origin.
It’s not the first time that Ken Scott has made a film in France. The director of “Starbuck” and “Goodbye Happiness” made an adaptation of the novel “L’Extraordinaire Voyage du Fakir” a few years ago with Bérénice Béjo and Gérard Jugnot.
