Kidnapping and murder Maddie McCann case: German (46) accused in Braunschweig

There are new details in the Maddie McCann case. More than 16 years after the disappearance of the British child, charges were brought against a suspect in the Braunschweig Regional Court. A German citizen is accused of kidnapping and killing the girl in Portugal in the summer of 2007.

Suspect lived in Portugal for several years

According to the German newspaper Bild, the 46-year-old suspect is also accused of raping an Irish woman in 2004. As the British “Mirror” reports, the suspect had recently written letters to his friends in which he accused the police of conspiring against him.

According to police information, the suspect lived regularly in the Algarve, in the south of Portugal, between 1995 and 2007. It was there that Maddie disappeared from her hotel room.

During the intensive investigation, Portuguese and German authorities looked for several different leads. However, Maddie’s parents were also suspected of being involved in their daughter’s disappearance. However, these theories have not solidified.

The suspect, a sex offender with multiple previous convictions, is currently in custody. However, the trial for his role in the Maddie case will be held in Germany.
